What is HLZ Suitability?

HLZ Suitability can be used to quickly identify areas suitable for helicopter landing zones (HLZ).

Rotary aviation provides unique capabilities and delivers a decisive advantage in combat and noncombat operations alike. Its ability to rapidly deploy and operate in remote areas proves invaluable in military, humanitarian, and emergency situations. Helicopters aid in casualty evacuation, delivery of humanitarian aid, wildfire support, and military offensive operations.

However, to truly maximize their employment, these aircraft must be able to land at and take off from isolated locations beyond established heliports and airfields. Identifying and understanding the location of terrain suitable for expedient helicopter landing zones (HLZ) within a given operational environment is key to both mission effectiveness and safe rotary aviation operations.

The HLZ Suitability solution delivers a set of capabilities that help defense and emergency management organizations identify areas suitable for helicopter landing zones.
