Configure a hosting server
Configure a relational store and object store with one of the federated GIS Server sites and set that site as your hosting server to allow members to do the following:
Publish hosted layers.
Add a zipped shapefile,
.csvfile, or GPS Exchange Format file to Map Viewer.Batch geocode addresses from a
.csvfile or table.Perform feature analysis or raster analysis in Map Viewer or ArcGIS Pro.
License:
To designate a GIS Server site as a hosting server, the site must be licensed as an ArcGIS GIS Server site at the Standard or Advanced edition. See ArcGIS GIS Server capabilities and extensions for details.
Data storage configuration
The hosting server needs to access the data used by the hosted layers published to ArcGIS Enterprise. You must configure storage locations for this data. Hosting server storage requirements include that your organization have the following:
The relational store—Used to support hosted feature layers by storing associated data.
The object store—Used to support hosted 3D layer caches, cached query responses, and more.
Depending on what other types of layers you and members of your organization will publish to ArcGIS Enterprise, you may need additional system storage types. To determine which additional types your organization requires, see Capability-based system storage.
See Install ArcGIS Data Store and Create a data store for instructions on creating data stores using ArcGIS Data Store.
Specify the hosting server
After you configure the federated GIS Server site with a relational store and object store, specify the site as your organization's hosting server by doing the following:
Sign in to the portal as an administrator and browse to Organization > Settings > Servers.
To specify a hosting server, choose one of the federated GIS Server sites.
If you added multiple GIS Server sites to your organization, only one can be designated as the hosting server.
Open the Configure server role dialog box by doing one of the following:
Next to Server role, click the current server role or click Configure server role if no role is currently assigned.
Click the More options button
and select Configure server role.
Use the toggle button to enable the Hosting Server option for the selected the server role.
Click Save.
Once configured, the federated server will include Hosting Server in its server role description.
You can now publish hosted feature and scene layers. Items for each of the layers appear on the My content tab of the content page. The services that power these layer items appear in a folder named Hosted, which you will see when you sign in to your GIS Server site from ArcGIS Server Manager.
Closely monitor server resources and usage to ensure the server can bear the load from users. If you anticipate many users hosting large numbers of services, you may want to add machines to your site before you configure the hosting server.
If you have not already done so, configure utility services for the portal.
