Infographics
Infographics present key indicators and summarize information for locations through interactive charts, tables, maps, and images. Infographics can help you answer location-based questions, such as:
How many households are in an evacuation zone?
What is the average household size in a ZIP code?
Does a proposed location have enough people to justify the grant application?
What type of neighborhood is within 10 minutes of a site?
How much is an area spending on groceries?
Depending on the data source selected, infographics can display variables from online or local datasets. When connected to an online data source, infographics leverage the GeoEnrichment service to access Esri demographic data collections. When connected to a local data source, infographics connect to the variables stored on your machine.
Note:
When connected to an online data source, you must be signed in with an ArcGIS organizational account, with available credits, to use the service.
Run infographics
Business Analyst infographics present location information in predesigned templates. You can run infographics that are included with Business Analyst, infographics shared with you by others, and custom infographics that you created. Infographics can be viewed in ArcGIS Pro or exported and shared with others.
To run infographics, do the following:
From the Map tab, in the Inquiry group, click Infographics
.The cursor now displays the Infographics indicator
, allowing you to select a feature on the map.Click on the map to select features. The following features can be used for infographics:
Polygons—Clicking a polygon feature returns summarized information for only this selected feature. Examples include administrative boundaries or network service areas.
Maps and points—Clicking on a web map or a point feature uses a buffer type set in the Configure Infographics dialog box. For example, you can set buffer parameters to a 5-minute drive time, or a 1-mile ring.
Lines—Clicking a line feature uses a default buffer of 1 mile. This can be customized in the Configure Infographics dialog box.
The Infographics window opens, displaying summarized information in the default infographic template for the selected features.
To explore the infographic, select individual panels in the template. You can interact with the data, charts, and maps. Several options are available, such as filtering content, comparing by geography, and viewing dynamic pop-ups.
Optionally, select another infographic in the Template drop-down list. Templates are organized in the following groups:
Esri Templates—These predesigned templates are provided by Business Analyst, and periodically updated by Esri as industry examples.
Shared Templates—These templates are shared to your organization. Members of your organization with permissions can view them.
My Templates—These templates are saved to your organization, and are viewable only to you.
My Variables—These templates show variables selected in the Configure Infographics window. This template is only available when connected to an online data source.
Tip:
Infographic templates can be created, modified, and shared using Business Analyst Pro with local data or Business Analyst Web App.
To set a default infographic template, hover over the template and click Set as Default. The default template name is highlighted in blue text. Any time ArcGIS Pro is opened, this template is active.
Change the view mode for infographics in the View drop-down menu by selecting either:
Full Page Mode—Shows the entire infographic containing all panels and pages.
Slide Mode—Shows individual panels in a carousel.
Optionally, run infographic comparisons for multiple features at once by doing the following:
Open infographic comparisons by doing one of the following:
Select features on the map. On the Map tab, click the Infographics drop-down menu and click Compare Selected Features
.From the open Infographics window, turn on the Compare toggle button
.
Use the Add features drop-down menu to add up to nine additional features. You can manually select features on the map and choose Add features > Selected Features. Alternatively, choose a layer from the map in the Add features > Layer drop-down list.
Change the format by selecting View > Infographic Panes or View > Variables. Viewing by panes groups infographic content into categories, while viewing by variables shows each variable individually.
Select one feature as the benchmark for comparison. The other features in the comparison infographic display content in relation to this benchmark. Hover over Options
on a feature in the infographic and select Make Benchmark.
To close the infographic, click Close
.
Configure infographics
You can customize infographic functionality, such as the variables in your My Variables list, as well as buffer parameters. To configure infographics, do the following:
To open the Configure Infographics window, do one of the following:
On the Map tab, click the Infographics drop-down menu and click Configure Infographics
.From the open Infographics window, click the Configure Infographics button
.
When connected to an online data source, you can configure variables:
Define country based on geography—The variables available are determined by the country you have clicked on the map. The location you selected also determines the available infographic templates.
Use specific country—Use the Browse button to select an online data source, then click the Add Variable button to customize the My Variables list.
Optionally, adjust the parameters for buffer size for points and lines. The size of the buffer is used to calculate the variable values.
Optionally, use the Send attributes to server check box to send attributes from your data to the ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise server.
Data attributes might include information like site area or available parking spots. Sending these attributes to the server allows infographic templates to display them.
Export infographics
You can save and share infographics outside of the application by doing the following:
Click the Export button
.On the Export Infographics window, choose a file format: PDF, HTML, or Dynamic HTML.
Infographics exported as PDF or HTML files are disconnected from their source data. Dynamic HTML allows for an interactive experience with embedded data, including tooltips, data-enriched tables or charts, and maps that allow pan and zoom capabilities.
Optionally, use the check boxes to add a header, data source information, and a footer.
Click Export.
The infographic is saved to your computer's default download location.
