181106: Unable to track camera position. No features were generated.

Description

The tool attempts to estimate the camera's position by detecting and tracking visual features across video frames. If a condition prevents the tool from estimating the camera position for a frame, it will not use that frame. If too many frames are excluded, this warning is issued and the tool stops.

Conditions that can cause a frame to be unusable include the following:

  • Blur—Dirty lenses, fast or jerky camera movement, or being too close to objects.

  • Overexposure or underexposure—Bright lights, low lighting or shadows, or sensitive camera exposure settings.

  • Insufficient contrast—Walls, floors, furniture, and other objects are difficult to distinguish (tool downsamples and converts video frames to grayscale for analysis).

  • Plain surroundings—Significant portions of the frame show uniformly blank or noisy surfaces.

  • Visual discontinuities—Rapid camera movement between rooms or areas with different lighting or decor.

  • Repetitive architecture—Similar-looking features that occur repeatedly in a space, such as multiple corridors with identical office spaces.

Solution

Review and identify places (timestamps) in the video that are affected by the conditions that may cause frames to be unusable, and adjust the Start Timestamp and End Timestamp parameter values to process the video in segments to exclude the identified timestamps.

If the warning persists, or if conditions affect significant portions of the video, address the underlying causes and re-record the video, or contact Esri Technical Support for assistance.
