Create a geometry

To create a geometry, complete the following steps:

  1. On the Home tab, click Geometries .

  2. From the drop-down list, click Create Geometry .

    The Create pane appears.

  3. Provide a name for the geometry in the Geometry Name text box.

  4. Click the Geometry Type drop-down arrow and select a geometry type.

  5. In the Spatial Reference section, click Select coordinate system .

    The Spatial Reference dialog box appears.

  6. Choose the correct horizontal and vertical coordinate systems for the geometry.

    1. Click the button under Current XY and choose a horizontal coordinate system.

    2. Click the button under Current Z and choose a vertical coordinate system.

    Tip:
    • Alternatively, you can type a search term or EPSG code in the Search text box to find a coordinate system.

    • Right-click a coordinate system and click Add to Favorites to add it to your favorites.

    • Right-click either coordinate system and click Details to see how it is defined.

  7. Click OK.

    The chosen spatial reference appears in the box.

  8. Click Create.

    Note:

    If you have not saved the project, you are prompted to do so. On the Save Project As dialog box, choose a location for the project, provide a name, and click Save.

The geometry you created appears in the Geometries group of the Project Tree pane.

Create a polygon feature

To create a polygon feature, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Project Tree pane, select a geometry.

    The Edit tab appears on the ribbon.

  2. Click the Edit tab, and click Create Polygon .

    A drawing session is automatically initiated and features can now be created.

    Note:

    On the status bar, below the globe, you can click Snapping to turn it on or off, or hover over it to configure the settings. Turning on snapping allows you to snap to features in the globe.

  3. Click the globe in the desired positions to create the vertices that will compose the polygon, and double-click to finish creating the polygon.

  4. On the editing toolbar near the bottom of the globe, click Finish .

  5. On the Edit tab, in the Manage Edits group, click Save to save your changes.

The polygon feature is created and ready to be used.
