Manage a workspace

You can manage a workspace to monitor jobs, inspect contributing nodes, adjust job priorities, and enforce task requirements for optimal processing.

Monitor a workspace

To monitor a workspace, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Project tab.

  2. Click Distributed Processing.

  3. Under Select a Workspace, click Browse .

If you have a default workspace configured, it will be shown here.

    Tip:

You can define a default workspace in the Processing Paths section on the General tab of the Options dialog box. This workspace will be selected by default every time you create, monitor or contribute to a job.

The Select a workspace folder dialog box appears.

  4. Select the workspace you want to contribute to, and click OK.

If the specified path does not point to a workspace, a workspace is created at that location.

  5. Click Start Monitoring .

Note:

If there are no active jobs in a workspace, the No Active Jobs warning message appears.

The Workspace Monitor pane appears, allowing you to monitor the distributed processing.

Monitor jobs

You can monitor jobs in a workspace to get an overview of their status.

To monitor jobs in a workspace, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Workspace Monitor pane, click the Jobs tab, if necessary.

The Jobs tab provides an overview of the status and progress of all jobs in a workspace. Individual columns include information about their priorities, names, status, progress, which node is currently working on a particular task, and system requirements.

  2. Optionally, click a row in the Workspace Monitor pane to select it and click Job Monitor to see detailed information for each task within a job.

Show progress layer on the map

To visualize the progress of a job on the map, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Workspace Monitor pane, click the Jobs tab.

  2. Select a job in the table.

  3. Click Show on Map .

The progress layer for this job is visualized on the map.

  4. Click Show on Map again to turn off the visualization.

Monitor contributing nodes

For a more detailed overview of the workstations assigned to a workspace as nodes, you can monitor them.

To monitor contributing nodes on a workspace, click the Nodes tab in the Workspace Monitor pane.

The Nodes tab provides an overview of the active workstations assigned to the workspace. Individual columns include information about the system requirements, current job status, progress, and the name of the job.

Manage priority of jobs

Jobs with the highest priority are processed first. If no open task remains, the system moves on to the next job in the line. You can adapt the priority of your jobs.

Nodes switch to prioritized jobs after completing their current task. Changes may take some time to take effect.

To change priority of a job in a workspace, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Workspace Monitor pane, click the Jobs tab.

  2. Click a row in the Workspace Monitor pane to select it.

  3. Click Change Priority , and choose low, medium, high, or highest.

By default, all jobs are submitted to the workspace with medium priority.

    Note:

Only one job can have highest priority in the workspace at a given time. If a new one is set, the previous job is downgraded to high.

A progress bar appears in the priority column.

The job priority changes accordingly. The priority icon shows the new status.

Match Requirements

Match Requirements enforce the required hardware selection in your workspace. Recommendations are turned into strict requirements to prevent unsuitable nodes from processing a task. Enable this feature if at least one of your nodes fulfills the task-specific system requirements to avoid inefficient processing.

To enable Match Requirements for a workspace, click the Match Requirements toggle button in the Workspace Monitor pane.

Cancel jobs

Canceling a job removes it from the processing queue, and all progress of ongoing tasks is lost. However, completed tasks remain available. When you resubmit the job later, only the unfinished tasks need to be reprocessed.

To cancel a job in a workspace, complete the following steps:

  1. In the Workspace Monitor pane, click the Jobs tab.

  2. Click a row in the Workspace Monitor pane to select it

  3. Click Cancel Job .

  4. On the Cancel Processing Job dialog box, click OK.

The job is removed from the workspace.
