Add and configure 360 degree images

You can add 360 degree images to provide an interactive experience for navigating around an immersive spherical image.

Readers can interact with 360 degree images when viewing an ArcGIS StoryMaps item by using the mouse to drag the image. They can also use a toolbar with buttons to move up, down, left, and right. The 360 degree image viewer can be set to full-screen mode to provide a more immersive experience while interacting with the image.

Add 360 degree images

You can add 360 degree images to stories, briefings, and frames.

  • In stories, you can add 360 degree images to the body of the story and sidecar media panels.

  • In briefings, you can add 360 degree images to briefing slide panels on all slide types except the cover.

Note:

Uploaded 360 degree image files must meet the media file requirements.

An image without 360 degree image metadata may be used with the 360 degree image viewer as long as it has an aspect ratio between 1.5:1 and 3:1.

Configure 360 degree images

In a story, hover over the 360 degree image and change its size by choosing Small, Medium, or Large. You can also choose Float left or Float right to position the 360 degree image on one side of the page and have text flow around it.

360 degree image options

In a story, briefing, or frame, hover over the 360 degree image block and click Options to access the following configuration options:

  • Display

    • Attribution—Add attribution to give credit to the content creator. Readers can view the attribution by hovering over the information icon at the top of the media.

    • Automatically rotate the 360 image—The 360 image will rotate automatically so readers can see it is interactive. This option is enabled by default but will not activate for readers who have configured their browser or operating system to prefer reduced motion.

  • Accessibility

    • Add Alternative text to the media to describe it for screen readers and search engines. The alternative text is shown to readers if the media can’t be loaded.
