Add and configure audio

Adding audio can provide an additional sensory experience for your audience. Readers can use the audio player to control how the sound plays.

Add audio

You can add audio clips to the body of a story and sidecar narrative panels. For information about supported file formats and size, see Media file reference. Embedding audio from third party audio hosting platforms is also supported.

Note:

You can also add background audio to sidecars, which allows you to provide ambient sounds. For more information, see Sidecars.

Use the following steps to add audio:

  1. Click the Add content block button to open the block palette.

  2. Select Audio.

    • To upload an audio file from your computer, drag a file to the Upload tab or click the Browse your files button to find the file.

    • To embed audio from the internet, click the Embed tab and provide the URL or embed code.

The audio is added.

You can change the size and placement of the audio player in the story using the media block toolbar, which appears when you hover over the audio player. For uploaded audio, you can resize the media to be small or medium or set it to float. The float option offsets the audio to the side and allows text wrapping around it.

Note:

The Embed option does not support links to audio files on a web server. This option is for embedding audio from audio hosting services.

Audio options

You can access the following audio block options by hovering over an image and clicking the Options button :

  • Playback options

    • Loop audio—Restart the audio clip at the beginning each time it finishes playing.
  • Accessibility options

    • Alternative text—Describe this audio clip for screen readers and search engines. This text is shown to readers if the audio can’t be loaded.

    • Transcript—Provide a transcript for the audio clip. Transcripts improve accessibility by providing a readable version of the media.
