Release notes for Urban July 2026

The following updates have been made to ArcGIS Urban.

General

The following new features and general improvements are available in Urban:

  • An improved Template selection experience simplifies choosing templates when creating urban models. This experience also introduces a first regional template for Norway.

  • Experience the following analysis improvements across plans and projects:

    • Use the new Sunlight analysis capability to assess sunlight exposure.

    • Copy and paste analysis configurations between plans, projects, and different urban models.

  • The Last edited date and Edited by information displayed for some types and layers allows you to better understand the editing history of these items.

  • The copying for plans and projects, including 3D models, has been improved for better performance.

Overview

The following improvement was added to the overview in Urban:

  • 3D models associated with a project are now also included in projects exported to city web scenes.

Project editing

The following improvement was added to the project editing experience:

  • 3D models associated with a project scenario are now also copied to the web scene when creating Project scenario web scenes.

Plan editing

The following new features and improvements were added to the plan editing experience:

  • Experience enhanced densification workflows:

    • You can now use the Convert existing buildings tool to convert existing buildings into building spaces by splitting building volumes into extruded floors. The resulting spaces have a space-use type assigned and can be used to create metrics for the existing scenario.

    • The tool is available in the existing scenario. It supports three modes:

      • Use the Automatic conversion to convert existing buildings into building floor spaces by the height of the existing building and the assigned space-use type.

      • Use the Attribute-driven conversion to convert existing buildings into building floor spaces using a numeric field in your existing buildings layer carrying information about the number of floors.

      • Use the Manual conversion to convert existing buildings into building floor spaces by inputting the number of floors.

  • Metrics have a new Filters option and can now be filtered by development status and space-use type. Filters are also visible in the dashboard charts.

  • The new Download scenario comparison report capability expands on the previous spreadsheet export:

    • The new report includes interactive pivot tables and customizable charts.

    • It provides better support for data updates.

  • Several performance improvements have been added, especially for small- to medium-sized plans.

Known limitations

The following are known limitations of this release:

  • Updating the order of space-use types or zoning types in the data manager or the plan configuration updates all Last edited time stamps.

  • When opening a Living Atlas indicator, some layers cannot be loaded and displayed.

Deprecated functionality

  • The Spreadsheet export functionality in the dashboard is deprecated and replaced by the comparison report download. It will be removed in an upcoming release.

  • Old metrics in plans are deprecated and will be removed with the next release. For plans, convert old to new metrics. See Convert old to new metrics. For projects, you can continue using old metrics beyond the next release.

  • Living Atlas indicators are deprecated and will be removed with an upcoming release.

Enhancements and bug fixes

The following enhancements and bug fixes are introduced with this release:

  • Bug fix—The UI to configure the sharing permissions for an urban model, a plan, or a project did not display correctly for some non-English locales. This is fixed.

  • Bug fix—The Default template option when creating an urban model is now correctly localized.

  • Bug fix—In the project editor, the asset selector tabs did not appear in non-English locales. This is fixed.
