Analyze a plan

You can use analysis tools to explore, understand, and gain insights into a plan. The analysis mode in the plan editor allows you to do the following:

• Conduct visibility analysis using line of sight.

• Determine visible areas using viewshed analysis.

• Conduct a shadow cast analysis.

• Evaluate the amount of sunlight.

• Generate an elevation profile.

• Assess parcel suitability.

You can create and configure analyses for each of the available analysis tools. A single analysis defines all the parameters necessary for performing the analysis, including those related to the calculation as well as map interactions. The analysis configuration is saved within the plan. Analyses can be edited, copied, and deleted, and they yield results for each scenario. You can view these results on the map.

Note:

Only users with an ArcGIS Urban license can analyze plans. Users without editing permissions can view and modify existing analyses to explore different results, but the changes will not be saved.

Open the analysis mode

To open the analysis mode, complete the following steps:

1. Open the plan editor.

2. Click the Analysis button in the upper right of the header.

   The analysis mode opens in the side panel.

   • If no analysis has been configured yet, the analysis mode shows the tools panel with all available analysis tools.

   • If there are analyses configured, the analysis mode shows the analyses list.

Create an analysis

To create an analysis, complete the following steps:

1. Open the analysis mode.

2. If no analysis has been configured yet, select an analysis tool from the tools panel.

   The analysis configuration panel appears.

3. If there are analyses available, complete the following steps:

   1. Click the New button in the analysis panel's header.

   2. Select an analysis tool from the tools panel.

   The analysis configuration panel appears.

4. Configure the analysis-specific parameters.

   • If you created a line of sight analysis, see Work with line of sight analysis in plans and projects to learn more.

5. Click the Return button in the panel's header to complete adding the analysis.

   The analysis you just configured is added to the list.

Configure analysis

You can configure for each analysis:

• Configure general information such as the name and the description of the analysis.

• Add and change the thumbnail image based on the current view by clicking the Update button . Adding a thumbnail image cannot be undone.

• Configure tool-specific parameters.

Copy and paste an analysis

To copy and paste an analysis to another plan or project, complete the following steps:

1. Open the analysis mode.

2. From the list of analyses, click the analysis you want to copy.

3. Click the Copy option from the Options drop-down menu in the analysis panel's header.

   The analysis configuration is copied to your clipboard.

4. Open the analysis mode in the plan or project where you want to paste the analysis.

5. To paste the analysis configuration, choose one of the following options:

   • Click the New button in the analysis panel's header, and click Paste from clipboard.

   • If there is no analysis configured yet, click Paste from clipboard in the analysis mode side panel.

Manage the analysis list

You can do the following for each analysis to modify the list of analyses by clicking the Edit button :

• Duplicate an analysis by clicking the Duplicate option from the Options drop-down menu next to the analysis in the list or in the header of the analysis configuration panel.

• Copy an analysis to your clipboard to paste it to another plan or project by clicking the Copy option from the Options drop-down menu next to the analysis in the list. See the copy and paste analysis section above to learn more.

• Delete an analysis by clicking the Delete option from the Options drop-down menu next to the analysis in the list or in the header of the analysis configuration panel.

• Reorder an analysis in the list by dragging the handle next to it.
