Plan your ArcGIS Velocity configuration
ArcGIS Velocity requires an existing base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment.
Learn more about a base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment
Velocity requires federation to an Enterprise base deployment. Federating allows the publishing of feeds and real-time analytics and integrates security, sharing, and content management. For more information when planning your deployment, refer to the Velocity system requirements and Resource allocation considerations topics.
Velocity can create and write to feature layers that are stored in either the ArcGIS relational data store or the ArcGIS spatiotemporal big data store. The relational data store is included as a core component of the Enterprise base deployment, while the spatiotemporal big data store is an optional add-on that is installed alongside it.

Note:
At the 12.1 release, only single-machine Velocity sites are supported.
A data store configured as an ArcGIS spatiotemporal big data store enables the creation of spatiotemporal feature layers, which are built to support storing and visualization of high-volume data.
