Configure sync settings
The sync method for your collaboration workspace determines when content will be sent to participating organizations. This includes new items shared with the groups participating in the distributed collaboration as well as updates to existing items. The two methods for how content can be shared are as follows:
Sync immediately
Scheduled sync
By default, when ArcGIS Enterprise joins a group to a collaboration workspace, the sync configuration will be to sync immediately. When ArcGIS Online (as the host) joins a group to a collaboration workspace, the sync configuration will be at scheduled intervals.
Collaboration guests with the Receive access mode will not see these options. Your collaboration access mode (Send, Receive, or Send and Receive) can only be set by the collaboration host. For items shared with the at scheduled intervals setting, guests control the sync schedule; the host does not control the sync schedule.
Note:
During synchronization, only new content, as well as the deltas for existing content, will be synchronized with other participants' groups.
Sync immediately
As an ArcGIS Enterprise participant, if your access to a collaboration workspace is Send or Send and Receive, you can choose to set the sync option to sync immediately. With the sync immediately option, newly shared content or content that has been unshared from collaboration groups is updated for participants right away. Updates made to items already shared—such as changes to item details or saving a web map or app—are also sent as soon as they are saved. However, data edits (for example, adding, deleting, or updating features in a layer) are not synced immediately.
Note:
If a scheduled sync event is in progress, sync immediately events will be skipped for the same collaboration workspace and participant.
Immediate sync is not available for content shared from ArcGIS Online collaboration workspaces. The content will be synchronized at the sync schedule set for the ArcGIS Enterprise collaboration workspaces.
Scheduled sync
If you use scheduled sync, collaboration groups are compared for differences at the scheduled interval. New or updated content from groups where the participant access mode is Send or Send and Receive will be sent to those whose access mode is Receive or Send and Receive.
Sync schedules are set at the workspace level by each guest, allowing you to choose a different schedule (from 1–24 hours) for each workspace in the same collaboration. By default, the interval for scheduled sync is set to check for and send changes every 24 hours. The minimum sync interval you can set is 1 hour.
If a guest owns the source layer, edits are synchronized with participants according to the established sync schedule. If the guest is not the owner of the source layer, the established sync schedule determines when they will receive synchronized edits.
Note:
A collaboration host cannot set sync schedules.
If a scheduled sync is still in progress when the next sync is due to start, the next sync is skipped to allow the current job to finish. To modify the sync schedule, edit the collaboration workspace.
Synchronization behavior of feature layer edits
Synchronization of feature layer edits varies based on the configured sync settings and participant access levels.
One-way synchronization
When a hosted feature layer or view is shared as a copy, subsequent edits to the source layer are synchronized according to the established sync schedule. By default, edits will be synchronized one-way from the source feature layer or view to each receiving participant.
Edits made by receiving participants are not synchronized back to the source layer and may be overwritten during subsequent synchronizations.
Two-way synchronization
Participants with the Send and Receive access mode applied can enable two-way synchronization of data edits to feature layers shared as copies. When a scheduled sync occurs, edits made to the source feature layer are shared with receiving participants, edits made by receiving participants are shared back to the source layer, and newly shared content and deltas for previously shared content are synchronized across collaboration groups.
Caution:
When editing feature layers with two-way synchronization, the following behaviors apply:
No checks are performed to detect or prevent conflicting edits.
The most recent edit overwrites earlier edits.
To minimize data conflicts, review archived versions of the feature service before making additional edits.
Edit the collaboration workspace sync settings
Guests choose the sync schedule once a group has been associated to the collaboration workspaces they have access to. Configure the sync settings by editing the workspace using the following steps:
Sign in to your organization as an administrator.
Browse to Organization > Settings > Collaborations.
Click the name of the collaboration whose workspaces you want to view.
Locate the name of the workspace you want to edit in the table, click the Action button drop-down arrow, and choose Edit Workspace.
Optionally, create a group or choose a different existing group to link to the workspace. Optionally, edit the sync settings for the workspace. Choose the option button for Sync immediately or Sync at scheduled intervals.
If you choose Sync at scheduled intervals, define the start time for the scheduled sync, as well as when to repeat the sync. These properties can be edited at a later time by editing the workspace again.
Click Save.
