Stop and start Portal for ArcGIS

When administering ArcGIS Enterprise, you may need to start and stop the Portal for ArcGIS service to perform maintenance or configure advanced settings.

Portal for ArcGIS runs as the account that was used to install the software. This is known as the Portal for ArcGIS installation owner account. You must log in to the machine hosting the portal as the installation owner account and use the command line scripts stopportal.sh and startportal.sh to stop or start your portal. These scripts are located in the root folder of the Portal for ArcGIS installation directory.

Portal for ArcGIS is powered by one Windows service, the Portal for ArcGIS service. You can view, stop, or start this service under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

To stop the Portal for ArcGIS service, select it in the Services panel and click Stop the service. To start it, select Start the service.
