What's new in ArcGIS Image Server

ArcGIS Image Server 12.1 includes updates, enhancements, new tools, and improved functionality.

If you're upgrading from 11.5 or an earlier release to ArcGIS Image Server 12.1, you must reauthorize the software. You can obtain a new license file from My Esri.

Imagery content management

ArcGIS Image Server on Linux supports using multiple GPU for training.

Enhanced support for hyperspectral imagery

  • New item type – Esri Spectral Library (*.esl) – You can now upload and share .esl spectral library items directly in ArcGIS Enterprise.

  • New raster types when creating hosted imagery – AVIRIS and EMIT raster types are now available for building richer, sensor‑specific hyperspectral imagery layers.

Raster analysis

Raster analysis tools and function updates are described below.

Environment settings

The processing extent environment setting has been split into two separate settings Analysis processing extent applies to feature analysis tools and Raster processing extent applies to raster analysis tools and raster functions. You can turn off Use different processing extent for raster analysis to apply the Analysis processing extent for all analysis.

Raster analysis tools

The Geomorphon Landforms raster analysis tool calculates the geomorphon pattern of each cell of an input surface raster and classifies them into common landform types.

The Summarize Categorical Raster raster analysis tool generates a table containing the pixel count for each category in each slice of an input multidimensional categorical raster.

Raster functions

The following new raster functions are now available:

  • The Label Bad Bands raster function enables you to specify a set of bands using ranges or lists to be labeled as bad.

  • The Mosaic Rasters By Band Indices mosaics overlapping pixels of a collection of images based on criteria defined by their band indices.

  • The Subset Bands raster function enables you to extract a subset of bands using ranges or lists.

ArcGIS REST API

The updates described below were made to ArcGIS REST API.

Raster analysis tasks

  • Build Multidimensional Info task generates multidimensional metadata in the mosaic dataset, incorporating information about variables and dimensions from images collected at various times, depths, or heights.

  • Calculate Image Service Field task calculates the value of a field for an image collection.

  • Detect Image Anomalies task processes a multiband or hyperspectral image and creates an anomaly score raster. An anomaly score raster is a single band raster, with values between 0 and 1.

  • Detect Target Using Spectra task processes a multiband or hyperspectral image and identifies pixels in an image that match a spectral signature. The output will be a multiband raster if the library file contains multiple spectral signatures.

  • Resample Library Spectra task resamples the bands of a spectral library to match the bands of a target spectral library or image, producing a new spectral library file.
