Rendering engine not supported by hardware

ArcGIS Pro tries to leverage a compatible graphics adapter to display maps and scenes efficiently. The system requirements page lists all requirements for graphics adapters.

You can choose a rendering engine from the project display options. By default ArcGIS Pro uses the DirectX 12 rendering engine.

When ArcGIS Pro is unable to use the specified rendering engine chosen, an attempt is made to fall back to an alternative rendering engine. A drawing alert is raised to inform you of this issue. This problem can occur if the current graphics processing unit (GPU) is older and does not support the rendering engine, or if the GPU has an outdated driver.

ArcGIS Pro attempts to initialize rendering engines in the following order:

  • DirectX12 > Vulkan > DirectX11 > OpenGL > WARP (software emulation)

To resolve the drawing alert, try the following solutions:

  • Update your GPU driver from the manufacturer's website.

  • If your GPU does not support the selected rendering API even on the most current driver, switch to another rendering engine in the project display options.

  • Consider upgrading your computer's GPU to a newer model if possible, especially if the manufacturer no longer supports that model.
