Story outline

The outline allows you to see and organize content in a story. It shows all content blocks in a clear, hierarchical view. The headings you have added to the story are used to group blocks together into sections. Sections can be expanded, collapsed, or moved around as a unit to help you reorganize large portions of a story.

Note:

Immersive sections (sidecars and map tours) are shown as individual blocks in the outline. To organize content in an immersive section, use the main builder view. For more information, see Add and configure sidecars and Add and configure map tours.

Show the outline

To open the story outline, complete the following steps:

  1. Edit a story in the builder.

  2. In the header, click Outline.

The outline panel opens.

View and organize content

You can perform the following actions using the outline:

  • Click a heading to expand its section. Heading 2 and heading 3 blocks are indented to reflect the hierarchical relationship.

  • Hover over a block or section and click the options button to access the Jump to block or Jump to section options. Scroll the main story view so you can see the selected block or section.

  • To reorder content in the outline, drag a block or heading to a new location. When you drag a heading, all the blocks in the section under that heading are moved.

Tip:

For accessibility, headings must be used sequentially. You can use the outline to ensure a heading 1 is the first heading in the story and a heading 3 is always preceded by a heading 2. When rearranging sections, verify the heading order is sequential.
