Create an organization

After the Portal for ArcGIS installation completes, you are prompted to create a new organization or join an existing machine. You will only join an existing machine if you are configuring a highly available portal.

To create a new ArcGIS Enterprise organization, follow these steps:

  1. Click Create.

  2. On the Provide license page, browse to your license .json file containing authorized user types and apps. Click Next.

This file is obtained from My Esri.

  3. On the Create initial administrator account page, provide the following information, then click Next:

    • Username—The username for the account. The username must be between 6 and 128 ASCII characters.

    • Password—A password for the account. The password must be at least eight characters and have at least one number and letter.

    • User type—The user type of the account. Select a user type from the drop-down list, which lists the user types that are compatible with the initial administrator account that are included in your license file. The user type assignment can be changed after the organization is created. If this option is disabled, your license file only includes one compatible user type for this account.

    • First name and last name—The first and last name used for the account.

    • Email—An email address for the account. The email address cannot contain an apostrophe.

    • Security question and answer—Used to verify your identity if you need to reset the password for the account.

The initial administrator account is required to register your portal with ArcGIS Web Adaptor. It is also required to configure LDAP or PKI for portal authentication.
