Publish hosted feature layers

Feature layers can be used in projects to collect observations from imagery and video. See Add observation layers to learn more about observation layers.

To publish a new feature layer, complete the following steps:

  1. Browse to Publish New: Hosted Web Layers from the home page, or click Publish Layer on the side navigation menu.

If you are in an Excalibur Project, you can also add observation layers within the Project Details.

  2. In Feature Layer, choose the layer to create: Point, Line, or Polygon.

  3. Provide information for the following parameters:

    • Enter a Layer Name for the new layer.

    • Confirm Point, Line, or Polygon for the layer geometry type.

  4. Optionally, add the Excalibur Calculated Fields and Analyst Comments Field values to the layer.

The Excalibur Calculated Fields are managed by ArcGIS Excalibur and are used to automatically populate information from the image when a feature is collected on top of imagery.

You can edit additional layer information, add or remove fields, edit the layer styling, and edit specific layer settings after the layer is published.

  5. Click Create Layer.

The new observation layer is ready to use from Observation Layers. Open Observation Layers from the home page or side navigation bar.

Configure an observation layer

You can configure the layer after it is published or at a later time. The Configure Observation Layer page appears immediately after the layer is published. To learn more about configuring an observation layer, see Configure an observation layer.
