Message: Topology layer cannot be edited directly
This message is displayed in the Editing Status dialog box.
Cause
Geodatabase topology layers cannot be edited directly.
Solution
To edit geodatabase topology, validate the topology, and then use editing tools to fix any errors or mark them as exceptions.
Tip:
When using the Error Inspector, use the Fix Error tool 
to click an error in the map and fix it using commands on the context menu. The available commands vary depending on the error.
