Generate insights

The Insights panel helps you identify potential improvements and gaps in your story content. It suggests actions you can take to improve accessibility, content quality, and reader experience.

Open the Insights panel

Complete the following steps to generate insights for a story:

  1. Open a story in the story builder.

  2. In the header, click Insights.

The panel opens and automatically generates suggestions based on your content.

Important:

Use insights after you have made progress building a story. The suggestions and summary information are only generated if your story contains more than 100 words.

Suggestions

The Suggestions section highlights ways to improve your content in three key areas:

  • Accessibility—Flags media without alternative text

  • Media—Identifies images or videos without captions or attribution

  • Experience—Recommends features that can enhance the reading experience for your audience

Note:

The About this story section provides an AI-generated overview of your story, including the following information:

  • Summary—A concise description of your content

  • Tone, sentiment, and readability—Classification of your writing style and complexity

  • Word count and reading time—Estimated length and time to read

  • Detected languages—Languages found in your content

  • Keywords and places—Extracted terms and geographic references

Complete the following steps to summarize a story:

  1. Open a story in the story builder.

  2. In the header, click Insights.

    You may have to wait a few moments for the summary to generate.

  3. Click the Update item description button to update the description section of the ArcGIS item details page with the information from this section.

Use the following tips to get the most value from insights:

  • Review suggestions regularly—View insights after major edits to ensure new content meets accessibility and quality standards.

  • Act on accessibility flags first—Adding alternative text and captions improves usability for all readers.

  • Attribute media—Properly credit images and videos to maintain transparency and trust.

  • Use experience recommendations—Enable features that improve navigation, readability, and engagement.

  • Update item details—Keep your ArcGIS item description current using the AI-generated summary and keywords.
