AI in ArcGIS StoryMaps

ArcGIS StoryMaps uses artificial intelligence (AI) in a variety of ways.

Important:

AI capabilities and assistants may be preview or beta.

Your ArcGIS Online administrator must configure assistants before you can access AI assistants. You must also have the privilege to use AI assistants.

Capabilities

The ArcGIS StoryMaps assistant provides the following AI-powered capabilities:

  • Convert an image to a content block —Generate an interactive chart or table from an image. This can be a useful capability to use after creating a story by importing a document.

  • Suggest alternative text—Generate suggested alternative text by analyzing content you have added to an ArcGIS StoryMaps item.

  • Analyze a story—Generate a suggested summary, set of keywords, list of languages used, and geographic place references for a story. Also evaluate a story's tone, sentiment, estimated reading time, and readability level.

  • Refine your writing—Regenerates selections of text, adjusting aspects such as tone, length, and grammar. Also, summarize longer selections of text as a list or heading.

  • Generate a theme—Create a custom theme based on keywords, a description, or an image.

Credits

Using the ArcGIS StoryMaps assistant's capabilities does not currently consume credits.

To provide feedback, click the Help button in the header and choose the Feedback option. Your feedback may be used to guide future development of Esri products and documentation.

Security and privacy

AI in ArcGIS StoryMaps aligns with the following principles:

  • Prompts are not used to train Esri or third-party AI models.

  • Prompts are not used to improve any Esri or third-party product or service.

  • Prompts are not stored or shared, unless you give explicit permission, such as when you provide feedback about an assistant, agent, or capability.

  • Prompts are not used to improve AI features for your own use.

AI transparency cards are available with more security and privacy details.

Limitations and bias

An ArcGIS Online organizational account is required to access AI in ArcGIS StoryMaps. Other account types, such as public accounts, are not currently supported. AI features are not currently available on ArcGIS Enterprise.

Some of the assistant's capabilities are currently supported only in English.

Suggestions generated using artificial intelligence can be misleading or inaccurate. To avoid potentially reinforcing any unintentional biases in the models used by ArcGIS StoryMaps, human judgment should be applied to interpreting and acting upon the AI outputs.
