Deploy individual components

When deploying the components of ArcGIS Enterprise individually, you will first need to create a base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment. If appropriate for your needs, you can then expand the capabilities of a base deployment by federating additional server sites.

Create a base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment

A base deployment provides the fundamental capabilities of ArcGIS Enterprise. To create a base deployment you will need to configure an ArcGIS Enterprise organization, set up an ArcGIS GIS Server site, and configure that GIS Server site as the hosting server. The steps below provide an overview of how to create a base deployment.

Before creating a base deployment, verify that each machine meets the system requirements and obtain the software downloads and authorization files from My Esri.

Create an ArcGIS Enterprise organization

  1. Install Portal for ArcGIS.

  2. Create your ArcGIS Enterprise organization using either a single machine or two machines for high availability.

  3. Configure your ArcGIS Enterprise organization with ArcGIS Web Adaptor or a 3rd-party reverse proxy.

  4. To get the complete set of 3D symbology in your Scene Viewer symbol gallery, such as Vegetation, install the Web Styles setup.

For additional information see Scene Viewer requirements.

Create a hosting server site

You will need a GIS Server site to act as the hosting server for your ArcGIS Enterprise deployment. If you have an GIS Server site at the same version as your ArcGIS Enterprise organization, you can use that existing site. To create a new GIS Server site, follow these steps:

  1. Install ArcGIS Server authorized with an ArcGIS GIS Server Standard or Advanced license.

  2. Create a GIS Server site.

This GIS Server site will be your hosting server.

  3. If your GIS Server site requires multiple machines, such as for a highly available ArcGIS Enterprise deployment, install ArcGIS Server on those machines and join them to the GIS Server site.

  4. Configure your GIS Server site with ArcGIS Web Adaptor or a 3rd-party reverse proxy.

  5. Create a relational store and register it with your GIS Server site.

You can install ArcGIS Data Store and use it to create and register the relational store.

  6. Create an object store and register it with your GIS Server site.

You can install ArcGIS Data Store and use it to create and register the object store. Alternatively, you can use cloud storage if ArcGIS Enterprise is deployed in the AWS or Azure cloud. For a deployment in the AWS cloud, you can use Amazon S3 for the object store. For a deployment in the Azure cloud, you can use Azure Blob Storage for the object store.

  7. Federate your GIS Server site with ArcGIS Enterprise.

  8. Configure your GIS Server site as the hosting server for ArcGIS Enterprise.

Federate additional server sites

After you have configured a base deployment, you can federate additional server sites to expand the capabilities of your organization.

Before creating additional server sites, verify that each machine meets the system requirements and obtain the software downloads and authorization files from My Esri.

In general, the process to add an additional server site to your ArcGIS Enterprise deployment involves the following steps:

  1. Install the software for the additional ArcGIS Enterprise servers you want to federate. For specific instructions, refer to the installation guide for each type of server site.

  2. Create the server site.

  3. Configure the server site with an ArcGIS Web Adaptor or 3rd-party reverse proxy.

  4. Create and register any additional capability-based data stores required by the server site.

  5. Federate the server site and assign the appropriate server role.

Perform post-deployment administrative tasks

After you have deployed ArcGIS Enterprise, you may need to perform additional administrative tasks in order to fully configure your deployment to provide all the capabilities you require. Common post-deployment tasks include:
