Add Color Scheme (Utility Network Tools)

Summary

Adds a color scheme definition for features in a utility network's telecom domain network. Color schemes (or color codes) are used to identify fiber strands, cables, and connectors in telecommunication systems. Each color scheme includes a hierarchical definition with multiple levels in which each level has its own labels, capacities, and delimiters.

Usage

  • The Input Utility Network parameter value must reference a utility network version 8 or later.

  • The utility network dataset provided for the Input Utility Network parameter must include a telecom domain network.

  • The Groups parameter's Level property must start with 1 and increase sequentially. The Level property is automatically populated when left blank.

  • The Groups parameter's Capacity property must be empty at the lowest level in a group.

  • The following requirements must be met when working with an enterprise geodatabase:

Parameters

Label Explanation Data type

Input Utility Network

The input utility network where the color scheme will be added.

Utility Network; Utility Network Layer

Domain Network

The telecom domain network where the color scheme will be added.

String

Color Set Name

The name of the color set that will be used to define the color scheme.

String

Color Scheme Name

The name of the color scheme that will be added. The name must be unique in the utility network. The color scheme name is limited to 50 characters.

String

Group Delimiter

The character or characters that will be used as the delimiter between groups, for example, % or !&.

Note:

The delimiter can be one or two characters. The number sign (#) can be used as a delimiter when prefixed with $, for example, $# will be evaluated as # with a length of 1 when the tool is run.

String

Groups

(Optional)

Properties that describe the attributes for each group's level in the color scheme hierarchy.

Value table columns:

  • LevelThe group level. This is used to denote the level that the color scheme applies to in the hierarchy. This is automatically populated and increases sequentially when left blank.

  • NameThe name of the level in the color scheme hierarchy.

  • LabelsThe label that will be used to define the color for the fiber, cable, or connector, for example, BL, OR, GR_BK.

  • CapacityThe number of entities that can be contained within a particular label at a specific level in the color scheme hierarchy. For example, a buffer may contain multiple ribbons (such as a capacity of two ribbons per buffer). A ribbon might contain multiple fibers (such as a capacity of three fibers per ribbon). At the lowest level, fibers are atomic units without anything grouped below them. Capacity is left empty at the lowest level.

  • DelimiterThe character or characters that will be used as the delimiter between labels.
