ArcGIS Reality Studio system requirements

Before installing or upgrading ArcGIS Reality Studio, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements to run it. Also, learn what resources are recommended for best performance.

Hardware requirements

The minimum and recommended requirements to run ArcGIS Reality Studio are listed below. Minimum requirements will support the application but may not perform well. Best performance is gained using the recommended requirements.

Item

Supported and recommended

CPU

Minimum: 6 cores, 12 threads.

A processor supporting AVX2 instruction set is required.

Recommended: 24 to 32 dual cores.

Storage

Minimum: 1 TB internal disk drive

For performance reasons, avoid using USB drives.

Recommended: 1 TB internal SSD disk processing directory

Memory/RAM

Minimum: 32 GB

Required RAM is dependent on input data, project size, and configuration. Very large projects can require more RAM. See Additional system considerations for details.

Recommended: 64 GB or more

GPU

Minimum: An integrated GPU that is supported by the manufacturer

Certain products require a dedicated GPU for processing. See Additional system considerations for details.

If multiple GPUs meet requirements, the GPU with highest compute capacity is used.

Recommended: A dedicated NVIDIA GPU with CUDA compute capability 7.5 or later

Dedicated (not shared) graphics memory

Minimum: 4 GB of memory for display.

Recommended: 16 GB or more for processing.

Screen resolution

Minimum: 1024x768

Recommended: 1080p or higher

Higher resolutions, such as 4K, require more video memory and a more powerful GPU.

Recommendations for network connections

Item

Recommendation

Workspace

A network attached storage (NAS) with a 10 Gbps connection and sufficient capacity to store all projects in your workspace, including the produced results.

Processing Nodes

1 Gigabit connection for contributors.

Cloud instances examples

The following are cloud instance types that meet hardware requirements:

Cloud instance type

Recommendation

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Recommended: g4dn.4xlarge (available as an ArcGIS Image Dedicated Pro Machine of type Large_GPU)

Check the hardware requirements to ensure the virtual desktop has enough RAM for your project and the Elastic Block Store (EBS) storage meets the combined storage needs.

Microsoft Azure

Recommended: NV12s v3 (available as an ArcGIS Image Dedicated Pro Machine of type Large_GPU)

Check the hardware requirements to ensure the virtual desktop has enough RAM for your project and the Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) storage meets the combined storage needs.

Software requirements

The following are required to run ArcGIS Reality Studio.

Minimum software requirements

The following software must be installed separately before installing ArcGIS Reality Studio:

Software

Minimum requirement

Microsoft .NET

Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.0 or a later patch release (8.0.1 and so on), using a Windows x64 installer, is required. Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime is updated frequently. It is recommended that you install the latest patches as they become available. However, installing .NET 9 or any later version doesn't fulfill this software requirement.

WebView2 Runtime

Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime version 132 or later is required. If it is not already installed on the machine, use the Evergreen Bootstrapper or Evergreen Standalone Installer from Microsoft.

Note:

A per-machine installation (the default) of ArcGIS Reality Studio requires a per-machine installation of WebView2 Runtime. To do this, right-click the WebView2 installer and click Run as administrator.

DirectX*

Minimum: DirectX 11, feature level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0

OpenGL*

Minimum: OpenGL 4.3 with the ARB_clip_control and EXT_texture_compression_s3tc extensions

* If DirectX requirements are not met, OpenGL is automatically used. You can also manually change to OpenGL, such as when you suspect an issue with the DirectX driver.

Note:
  • Use the latest available driver.

  • Cloud storage services, such as Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive, are not supported unless stated otherwise in the documentation about specific tools and functionality.

Additional software requirements

The following software must be installed separately to support certain ArcGIS Reality Studio workflows:

Software

Minimum requirement

ArcGIS Coordinate Systems Data

Some geographic transformations (for example, NTv2, GEOCON, and NADCON5) and vertical transformations based on geoids, quasi-geoids, or other conversion grids (for example, EGM and VERTCON) require files that are not installed with ArcGIS Reality Studio. This can lead to failed processes.

Deep Learning Libraries

To generate Gaussian splats, it is required that the supported deep learning libraries are installed.

Note:

No deep learning is performed in ArcGIS Reality Studio. Learn more about preparing ArcGIS Reality Studio for Gaussian splat generation

ArcGIS Raster Data

If your environment requires running ArcGIS Reality Studio offline, additional raster data must be installed on your machine so that all main processing steps can be performed.

Supported operating systems

The software is supported on the Microsoft Windows operating systems listed below, as long as the operating system is also currently supported by its provider for general or public use.

Operating system

Latest update or service pack tested

Windows 11 Home, Pro, and Enterprise (64 bit)

Sept 2025 update

Windows Server 2025 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit)

Sept 2025 update

Windows Server 2022 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit)

Sept 2025 update

Windows Server 2019 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit)

Sept 2025 update

Note:
  • Prior and future updates or service packs for these operating system versions are supported unless otherwise stated. The operating system version and updates must also be supported by the operating system provider.

  • The Desktop Experience option is required on all versions of Windows Server.

Additional system considerations

System requirements vary depending on dataset size, process settings, and workspace configuration. To ensure successful processing, at least one workstation contributing to your workspace must meet the system requirements outlined in this section and the match requirements functionality of the workspace must be turned on.

Memory requirements

The following table describes the memory requirements for projects based on the number of images.

Project size

Required RAM

Up to 4,000 images

32 GB

Up to 10,000 images

64 GB

Up to 30,000 images

128 GB

Up to 65,000 images

256 GB

Reconstruction

The following sections describe requirements for reconstruction.

Tile size

You can define the tiling scheme for raster and point cloud products when creating a reconstruction. Specify the output raster pixel size, tile size, and tiling origin to meet project requirements without postprocessing.

Manually setting tile size can affect performance and memory usage. Use the following recommendations to determine maximum tile sizes based on available RAM and reconstruction scenario:

RAM

Nadir scenario

Oblique scenario

Drone scenario

Max 2000 x raster pixel size

Max 4000 x raster pixel size

Max 2000 x raster pixel size

128GB or more

Max 5000 x raster pixel size

Max 4000 x raster pixel size

Max 2000 x raster pixel size

Note:

Tile size must be a multiple of the raster pixel size.

Gaussian splats requirements

If you select Gaussian splats as the output product, your processing machines must meet the following requirements:

Item

Supported and recommended

GPU

Minimum: NVIDIA GPU with CUDA compute capability 7.5 or later

GPU VRAM

Minimum: 8GB

Recommended: 16GB or more

Additional software requirement
