ArcGIS Reality Studio system requirements

Before installing or upgrading ArcGIS Reality Studio, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements to run it. Also, learn what resources are recommended for best performance.

Hardware requirements

The minimum and recommended requirements to run ArcGIS Reality Studio are listed below.

Minimum requirements will support the application but may not perform well. Best performance is gained using the recommended requirements.

Minimum system requirements

Item

Minimum system requirements

CPU

6 cores, 12 threads. A processor supporting AVX2 instruction set is required.

Memory/RAM

RAM requirements based on dataset size:

10,000 images or fewer: 64 GB

30,000 images or fewer: 128 GB

70,000 images or fewer: 256 GB

Dedicated or integrated GPU

A dedicated GPU is recommended with 4 GB of memory for display.

DirectX*

Minimum: DirectX 11, feature level 11.0, Shader Model 5.0

OpenGL*

Minimum: OpenGL 4.3 with the ARB_clip_control and EXT_texture_compression_s3tc extensions

Disk

Internal disk drive.

Screen resolution

Minimum: 1024x768

Example workstation

CPU AMD Ryzen 5 or Intel Core i5 with 16 GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060.

* If DirectX requirements are not met, OpenGL is automatically used. You can also manually change to OpenGL, such as when you suspect an issue with the DirectX driver.

Note:
  • Use the latest available driver.

  • Cloud storage services, such as Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive, are not supported unless stated otherwise in the documentation about specific tools and functionality.

Item

Recommended

Optimal

CPU

24 cores, 48 threads.

32 cores, 64 threads.

Memory/RAM

Refer to the Minimum system requirements section above. Available memory is dynamically used to improve performance.

Dedicated GPU

NVIDIA GPU with CUDA compute capability 6.1 or later.

Example workstation

CPU AMD Ryzen 9, or Intel Core i7 or i9, GPU NVIDIA RTX 4070, SSD disk.

CPU AMD Threadripper or Intel Xeon, GPU NVIDIA RTX 4090, NVME SSD disk.

Recommendations for distributed processing

Item

For Distributed Processing

Network Attached Storage (NAS)

A NAS with enough storage for your projects' workspace.

10 Gigabit network connection.

Processing Nodes

1 Gigabit connection for contributors.

1 TB internal SSD disk for processing directory.

Cloud instances examples

The following are cloud instance types that meet hardware requirements:

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Recommended: g4dn.4xlarge (available as an ArcGIS Image Dedicated Pro Machine of type Large_GPU)

Check the hardware requirements to ensure the virtual desktop has enough RAM for your project and the Elastic Block Store (EBS) storage meets the combined storage needs.

Microsoft Azure

Recommended: NV12s v3 (available as an ArcGIS Image Dedicated Pro Machine of type Large_GPU)

Check the hardware requirements to ensure the virtual desktop has enough RAM for your project and the Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) storage meets the combined storage needs.

Supported operating systems

The software is supported on the Microsoft Windows operating systems listed below, as long as the operating system is also currently supported by its provider for general or public use.

Operating system

Windows Server 2019 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit)

Feb 2025 update

Windows Server 2016 Standard and Datacenter (64 bit)

Feb 2025 update

Note:
  • Prior and future updates or service packs for these operating system versions are supported unless otherwise stated. The operating system version and updates must also be supported by the operating system provider.

  • The Desktop Experience option is required on all versions of Windows Server.

Software requirements

The following software must be installed separately before installing ArcGIS Reality Studio:

Software

Minimum requirement

Microsoft .NET

Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8.0.0 or a later patch release (8.0.1 and so on), using a Windows x64 installer, is required. Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime is updated frequently. It is recommended that you install the latest patches as they become available. However, installing .NET 9 or any later version doesn't fulfill this software requirement.

WebView2 Runtime

Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime version 117 or later is required. If it is not already installed on the machine, use the Evergreen Bootstrapper or Evergreen Standalone Installer from Microsoft.

Note:

A per-machine installation (the default) of ArcGIS Reality Studio requires a per-machine installation of WebView2 Runtime. To do this, right-click the WebView2 installer and click Run as administrator.

ArcGIS Coordinate Systems Data

Some geographic transformations (for example, NTv2, GEOCON, and NADCON5) and vertical transformations based on geoids, quasi-geoids, or other conversion grids (for example, EGM and VERTCON) require files that are not installed with ArcGIS Reality Studio. This can lead to failed processes.
